Abstract
Objectives: Scientific evidence on the efficacy and safety of onasemnogene abeparvovec for treating spinal muscular atrophy type 1, was evaluated. Method: A systematic review of the literature was conducted, according to a previously approved protocol. Results: Three studies were selected, START, STR1VE and STR1VE-EU, with high risk of bias and certainty of very low quality evidence. Overall survival of 91 to 100%, mechanical ventilation-free survival of 39 to 82% and treatment-related adverse events in 25 to 73% of patients were reported. Conclusions: The real benefit of onasemnogene abeparvovec is uncertain and the decision-making process for its incorporation into the SUS is challenging.
