Abstract

Objective: To analyze the studies already carried out on the ethyl acetate fraction obtained from the leaves of Mansoa hirsuta D.C. (FMH) rich in pentacyclic triterpenes. Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study on the chemical characterization, toxicity, anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions and development of chitosan films incorporated with the fraction for the treatment of wounds. Results: It was observed that FMH did not compromise the cell viability of 3T3 cells and in in vivo assays of acute and subchronic toxicity did not show relevant toxicological alterations. In addition, it did not change the locomotor activity and behavior of the mice, nor did it cause changes in the motor coordination and balance of the treated animals. In the assessment of anti-inflammatory activity, FMH reduced carrageenan-induced edema and myeloperoxidase levels and decreased leukocyte and protein migration in the air bag model. Regarding the antinociceptive activity, there was a reduction in abdominal writhing in response to the administration of acetic acid and inhibition of the second phase of the formalin test. In this perspective, dressings containing the fraction were prepared, characterized by physicochemical methods and analyzed for their healing action in vivo. Conclusions: The results suggest an anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive profile of FMH, without causing apparent acute or subchronic toxic effects, with an excellent healing action, being a promising source to be explored in the development of therapeutic proposals for diseases that present this profile, including, to Covid-19. These works generated patent deposits referring to the purification of triterpenic acids and the healing film, BR1020150081804 and BR1020190193883 respectively.
