Abstract

Objectives: Analyze the registration of items in the “6505 – Drugs” class presented in the Material Catalog (CATMAT), from the perspective of a Federal Institute of Infectious Diseases in Rio de Janeiro, and discuss the challenges for its application in the acquisition of drugs in Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS). Methods: This descriptive study used documentary research as the methodological approach. The general list of CATMAT items was obtained through the Integrated Ombudsman and Information Access Platform “Fala.BR”. For analyzing the list of selected medications, the study used the “Padrão Descritivo de Medicamentos do Ministério da Saúde” and the “Vocabulário Controlado de Formas Farmacêuticas, Vias de Administração e Embalagens de Medicamentos” by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) as references. Results: The CATMAT contained 11,548 registered items in the “6505 - Drugs” category, with 5,788 items marked as “active.” Among them, 92% of items had the active ingredient described according to the Brazilian Common Denomination (DCB). Among compounded drugs, 71% had the “composition” field filled in, in 6% of registrations, information about “composition” was filled in inadvertently, 96% of items included dosage information, 61% of records specified the “pharmaceutical form” of the formulation, and the “optional characteristics” field was observed in 5% of items. Conclusions: Despite efforts to catalog the medicines procured by the Public Administration, the results indicate a persistent lack of standardization in the descriptions of records, as well as incomplete information, which may hinder the procurement process.
