Abstract
The Pharmaceutical Industry is competitive and make large investments in research, development, production and marketing of pharmaceuticals. The promotion of its products along with the medical profession, through the drug propagandists, is one of the main marketing strategies used by the Pharmaceutical Industry. These strategies are used to increase your drug sales and maximize your profits in the markets where you operate. This requires convincing physicians to prescribe more expensive drugs more often and not always with better evidence on health outcomes. The objective of this study was to carry out a review of the literature on how much the marketing carried out by the pharmaceutical industry can influence the quality of what is prescribed by the doctors. The search was carried out from articles obtained from databases such as Pubmed, Scielo, Scopus and Web of Science, from 2007 to 2017. The study showed several factors that interfere with medical prescription. Such as patient context, indications, environmental factors, characteristics of the drug and especially the pharmaceutical industry and its medical representatives. The marketing developed by the pharmaceutical industry to prescribers is potentially dangerous and harmful, both for professional practice and for consumers of health services.
