Abstract
Objectives: Characterize the profile of patients, drugs, average length of stay, average bed occupancy rate, problems in pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical recommendations (RFs) carried out in a critical patient unit of a tertiary hospital specializing in trauma in the city of Fortaleza/CE. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and quantitative study of the profile of PI performed in a critical care unit from January to December 2022. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed in Microsoft Excel software. Results: During the study period, 797 PI were performed involving 301 patients, an average of 66.42 PI/month. According to ATC/WHO, the drugs most involved in PI act on the digestive tract and metabolism 24.71% (n=197), nervous system 23.58% (n=188) and blood and hematopoietic organs 15.30% (n= 122). The most common problems in pharmacotherapy were: untreated health problem 36.51% (n=291), unnecessary prescribed medication 12.42% (n=99) and low therapeutic convenience 10.29% (n=82). The most prevalent PI were: medication inclusion 28.60% (n=228), medication suspension 13.55% (n=108) and dose adjustment 13.17% (n=105). An acceptance rate of 82.70% (n=659) was observed. Final Considerations: This acceptance rate, even in the first year of having a clinical pharmacist in the unit, highlights the relevance of the presence of this professional in the urgency and emergency setting, by providing patients with safer and more optimized care.
